Did you know?
Some medical or health problems in humans are increasingly developing and very difficult to cure. Medication is not enough! Therefore, it can be used as stem cells!
Stem cells are often touted as a ‘new hope’ for most of medical problems in humans. Most of us don’t really know the exact definition and function of stem cells? So, what exactly are stem cells?
Stem cells are cells that are responsible for creating new cells. Stem cells are factories of any cells from living beings. It can of different type of cells such as, eye cells, skin cells, hair cells, and kidney cells are some of the examples.
Yes, of course it is important! It is because, cells inside our body has a cycle of life and it has a certain period of life span. Stem cells will be active when there are dead cells present and it has the ability to replace dead cells in our body. One of the easiest example we can take a look is when there are wounds on our skin due to injuries. Those cells have the ability to form new layers of skin which later cover up the wounds.
Type of stem cells
Stem cells consist of various types that are responsible for specific functions. For example, blood cells comes from blood stem cells, skin cells come from skin stem cells, kidney cells comes from kidney stem cells and so on. Perhaps, one of the question which will arise in our minds is, whether the diversity of stem cells have existed since the embryonic phase? Given that the embryonic phase of the various organs of the body and are not fully formed yet. It is a good question because, there is still one more type of stem cells that is distinguished form its origin. This type of stem cell is known as embryonic stem cell.

Definition of embryonic stem cells
Embryonic stem cells are also known as “early stem cells”. Why? It is because this stem cells are the earliest stem cells or stem cells that are owned at the earliest stages during human development Embryonic stem cells is a stem cell that has the ability to grow into a different types of stem cells such as hematopoietic stem cells, mesenchymal stem cells and many more). Due to their potency, embryonic stem cells are stem cells that are responsible for the formation of all cells in the human body, no matter what type of cells they are.

The importance of embryonic stem cells
Unlike “ordinary cells”, embryonic stem cells are stem cells that build our organs. One of the most simple example, it is responsible for the formation of the eyes, but the “normal eye stem cells” are only responsible for the subsequent for renewal of the eye cells. In short, embryonic stem cells are the true formers of various organs of the body. From this, we begin to understand the importance of embryonic stem cells. Nowadays, scientists have been focusing their research on utilizing embryonic stem cells to repair damage to the organs of the human body. For example, if a human kidney is damaged, scientists can program embryonic stem cells so they can form new kidney tissue that will replace damaged kidney tissue.

How to obtain embryonic stem cells?
Embryonic stem cells are obtained from inner cell mass in embryos that are 5 days old. Inner cell mass is a collection of cells located on one side of the blastocyst. Blastocyst itself is an embryo aged four to nine days (counted after fertilization occurs). Inner cell mass consists of approximately 100 cells, each measuring 1/10 millimeter. Scientists maintain embryonic stem cells in a particular culture medium to then be engineered and used to form new cells and tissues.
